It gets more interesting and endearing and Gittel her daughter resented Jack and Gittel means good in Hebrew. Then the nightmare for Jack after Mrs. Spivak passes. She goes to the track enters the stables meets Duds and then takes her l to meet Mr. Belmont. Then Jack is now Dudley’s responsibility. But lots would have to change her into a boy. Someone gave her clothes and plus a place to sleep. And kind people to help .
This is just the beginning. The author is introducing us to the Spiro the jockey in a complex way through many different stages.
Meet Meredith and her relationship with Jack and Duds. Chapter titled Middle explains. Then more about seeking out who killed Meredith’s father. Meet Spiro more closely in chapter Trolley where Jack and Spiro went to Coney Island and plus she felt bad for the poor horses pulling their streetcar. Then their destination was Mermaid Avenue. Coney is next, Pearl’s and Spiro is asked why visiting Pearl’s. His reasons upset his host and her remarks hit him hard. But thus chapter turns positive page 151. Interested in more what they learned and home as Jack and Duds exercise the horses and her no relationship with Spiro more than just friendship.
Then at the police station and she’s questioned about her father. Then asked about her family and her ma. Then read what she says that’s endearing.
Jack and Spiro told Duds about the questioning and hear Duds words carefully page 113 first paragraph. Religion followed by Klatch the church.
Move ahead to Pattern and her page 160 reveals more about her two names on a list. Will Spiro find one of the names and more in the next chapter.
Then before leaving the police station Captain Jeff gave them a basket of fish. But you need to hear what Spiro says about it and a warning about someone close to both. More about food and going to Red Hook next. Why? Maybe finding a sister more about clothes Jack got from Meredith Duds wife.
Then Sunny’s not seeing Ema. Ferris next and Eva thrown out a few months ago and how she neglects her children. Eva Larette snd her children wander the streets. She’s going to try snd find them when she does page 185 her past revealed. Then not even asking them in Eva wants to know why she’s there and page 187 and her reaction to Spiro. Eva is her mother snd hue she treats her small children and a question she didn’t answer . Child abuse? Tears says it all as Jack expresses more than sadness . Pages 192-194 history of Governors Island and the last two lines page 194 !
Then a murder oh God this is more than serious. Why this person? A dinner with Duds and his family and Meredith says something that will shake you up. Then Buttons and going to Coney Island. What they find where they wind up and what they find makes you wonder whether they will even look for the killer. You won’t believe who was killed and they repeated the words said by the victim and this victim tried to warn Jack. Is this her fault?
Then the track is closed and no one came looking for the victim of the murder? You won’t believe it.
Then Jim McCann in his box and Jack sees the woman he’s with why does she take a harder look at her?
Rude to Jack telling her to stop eating and his demands of her rude and harsh. Why stay and work there?

Funeral for a victim warned her snd Spiro to stay out of it mind own business! Will they?

Then the search for Carlotta why? Why talk about Willie and thus chapter titled Tea is frightening as you read the final paragraph. But oddly enough, despite it all wait until you read who she’s with and where? Page 249 last line will give you more than fear!
